He kept peeling out.
Ba-dum kSH! Sorry guys, but you know banana jokes are just too good to pass up.
Similarly, this banana smoothie is too good to pass up. I made it yesterday for breakfast and it was UN. REAL. It reminded me forcibly of the Peanut Butter Moo'd from Jamba Juice but with about a quarter of the calories. It is also slightly reminiscent of Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream, but with peanuts instead of walnuts. And, again, healthier for you.
Additionally, and this is a huge thing for anyone who knows me, it sated my chocolate cravings until well after dinner. Serious miracle for this chocolate addict.
As you all know, I am a giant fan of the chocolate/banana/peanut butter combo and also a giant fan of the chocolate-for-breakfast trend. Europe really gets it. In Spain, you can order a napolitano de chocolate weighing approximately half a pound literally anywhere you go. It's a totally normal breakfast. God love those Spaniards.
Unfortunately, giant mounds of pastry dough stuffed with chocolate cream does not make for a super healthy start to your morning. Aside from the terrible sugar crash you incur a mere 30 minutes later, you feel sluggish and cranky the rest of the day. Not so with this smoothie. It's full of protein to power you through your morning and tastes just decadent enough to make you feel like you're getting away with breakfast murder. It pretty much cures a case of the Mondays or a serious bout of mid-week blues.
Additionally, I put a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder in there to really give my morning a boost. Feel free to leave it out, just add a little more yogurt or a little less milk.
I made this smoothie with crunchy peanut butter because it was all we had but it would work better with smooth. Unless, that is, you like little pieces of crunch in your smoothie in which case go for chunky PB. Also make sure to use a really ripe banana so that the flavor comes through in the smoothie and it's not just peanut butter (not necessarily a bad thing, but the banana flavor really kicks ass here).
Happy blending, friends. Time for me to split.
(sorry)
